I read a good opinion piece by a pastor that was in response to the liberal leaning group, The Sojourners's full page ad entitled "What Would Jesus Cut." This was referring to the budget and was comparing welfare programs (that hurt the poor ironically), to compassionate Christian care. And therefore the legislators should ask themselves what they think Jesus would cut. This pastor's response was to say that this was the wrong starting premise. There is no biblical reference of Jesus discussing policy. My lesson is to refocus on Jesus and what he said. And not worry about the latest scandal de jour, or what policy decisions may be hanging in the balance. Pray for our leaders for sure, but I need to spend less time getting anxious about politics.
